KANAL KØBENHAVN
- A UNIQUE DANISH TELEVISION STATION! -
Kanal København (Channel Copenhagen) is a Danish television station, placed in the capital of Copenhagen, but serving viewers in all parts of the country. It is unique in the sense that the content of programs differs from other channels. In the late afternoon documentaries and debates are shown, from 6 pm to 8 pm entertainment is on the programme, 8 pm to 10 pm offers cultural programs of various kinds, and finally the hours between 10 pm and midnight are aimed at the younger audience, through sports, comedy, music and other kinds of entertainments. The midnight hours are for the adult audience with uncensored erotic movies mixed with gameshows.
What also makes Kanal København special in a Danish context, is the amount of Danish programs. Here are no American television series, but a high percentage of programs with Danish content and in the Danish language. This, combined with the fact that it is free to watch for the viewers, makes it a very popular television channel in Denmark.
Some of the programmes that we are transmiting
Krigshistorier/War stories: World War II was the most comprehensive military conflict in the history of Mankind, and Denmark was a tiny part of that conflict. In this series of programmes we let some of the men and women, who fought the German occupation of Denmark, tell their story.
Sporvognens historie/History of the Tram: Trams have existed in Copenhagen since the middle of the nineteenth century. At first they were dragged by horses, later by engines. The whole story of this particular means of transportation is told in this series of programmes, in which a particular tram line is dealt with in each of the 19 broadcasts.
Mettes Mix/Mette’s Mix: The key words in this cosy programme, transmitted every Saturday evening in prime time, are: calmness, presence, time to speak and listen and a general positive atmosphere. Mette is the hostess in the studio, where known and unknown guests visit her.
DanskTopScenen/DanishPopMusic: “DanskTop” is a certain genre of music, very popular, particularly among mature people. Kanal København has delivered this show, presenting a wide range of “DanskTop”-artists, since 2001. Every Friday evening there is a new show, recorded with a live audience on different locations in the Greater Copenhagen Metropolitan Area.
Den Femte Magt/The Fifth Power: According to traditional thinking, there are three powers in a society, all connected to the state: the legislative, the executive and the judicial powers. Furthermore, many speak about the media as the fourth power. However, there is also a fifth power, philosophy, in which ethics and moral are discussed. In this series of programmes interviews about these issues are made with well known Danes.
Psykiatri/Psychiatry: Psychotropic is the story of a lot of money. A gigantic industry is run and earns billions of dollars without anyone is being cured. This is the main message in a strongly critical documentary in four parts.
Københavnerglimt/Glimpses of Copenhagen: In this very popular series of programmes the historian Allan Mylius Thomsen leads the viewers through Copenhagen in past and present. He is known for always wearing a hat and the broadcasts are lively and interesting because he possesses an enormous amount of knowledge about the city, he knows how to tell about it in an entertaining way, and he knows countless anecdotes about the city and its citizens.
